The Pakistan Telecom Employees Union has threatened to launch a countrywide protest movement, if their demands were not accepted within 14 days. PTEU Secretary General, Rana Muhammad Tahir announced this while addressing a press conference here on Monday.

Accusing that the administration of Pakistan Telecommunication Corporation Limited (PTCL) has banned employees union without giving any solid reason, he said in spite of that this year in March they again won the referendum by a large margin and was working hard to eradicate corruption and favouritism from PTCL.

The persons having vested interests opposed the referendum and filed a lawsuit against the union, he added.

Rana said PTEU also raised their case in front of some MNAs, but they seem to have under the influence of false information provided to them by the administration.

Welcoming the government's decision of making 70,000 employees permanent, Rana urged the government to solve workers problem on priority basis.

He demanded of the government to provide minimum 25 percent ad hoc relief to workers in view of price-hike, and the scale system restored.

The PTEU secretary general further demanded that the medical facility should be upgraded and the health budget of the organisation increased, besides clearing pending promotion cases of workers as early as possible.
