"These are indicative of our resolve for modernisation and self reliance, being fully aware of sacred duty to safeguard sea frontiers and maritime assets of the country," observed Rear Admiral Saleem Khalid, Flag Officer Sea Training, Pakistan Navy, while addressing passing out parade of new entry sailors on Friday at PNS Himalaya in Karachi.
He disclosed that Chinese made destroyers and warplanes were expected to be inducted into Pakistan Navy fleet in near future, which will further enhance its defence capabilities.
He said in order to have edge over the enemy, it was must that Navy equips itself with latest technology. Pakistan Navy has, therefore, endeavoured to keep pace with latest technological advances to meet present day challenges.
"We are a peace loving nation, but at the same time we have to ensure minimum deterrence so that no one can imposed war on us," Rear Admiral Saleem Khalid stated. He urged the passing out sailors to make full use of their latent energies, improve professional skills and acquaint themselves with present day warfare tactics so that they can effectively discharge sacred duty of protecting maxitime frontiers of the motherland.
He gave prizes to winners. Tech UT Tahir Mehmood was awarded Comkar gold medal for overall best performance. Faisal Mehmood was proclaimed best Non Tech UT, Sakhawat Ali and Qasim Bashir declared best in sports and academics. Khalid was given Proficiency Banner for overall best performance. Earlier, Captain Muhammad Hisham Commanding Officer PNS Himalaya spoke of salient feature of training sailors.
