Two young researchers of Nust Institute of Information Technology (NIIT), Ms Savera Tanwir and Tahir Azim, have been invited to join CERN for four months in the capacity of research fellow.

The Caltech/CERN scientists have invited them in recognition of the superb performance. This is the latest success story in a collaborative research relationship among NIIT, CERN and Caltech USA.

For the last three years, the NIIT faculty and students have been contributing to the development of cutting edge IT technologies through active research collaboration with CERN, Caltech USA.

In September 2001 CERN also formalised its relationship with Nust as CMS Associate Research Institute. This formalisation took place through the voting of the CMS collaboration board in Geneva, Switzerland.

Dr Arshad Ali, DG NIIT said that the board, being mindful of Nust's research contribution, voted unanimously to confer this status upon Nust.

CERN, the European Organisation for Nuclear Research, is the world's largest particle physics centre.

The fundamental research carried out at CERN has led to a number of innovations in the areas of medical imaging, radiation therapy, power generation, non destructive testing, sophisticated control systems and information technology.
