The Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) and Hyderabad Development Authority (HAD) has strongly opposed the release of Manchar Lake water in the Indus river.

If the Manchar water was released in the Indus River, it would be impossible to provide safe drinking water to hundreds of thousands of people of Hyderabad, the Wasa Managing Director told the KTN Television.

He said the water of Manchar Lake was contaminated and poisonous containing such particles and salts that cannot be separated or filtered through water filtration system. Water was treated by using Chlorine and Alum, he said, adding those chemicals had no impact on poisonous salts.

The Wasa MD said if the water of Manchar lake was released in the Indus River, then the HDA was not capable of purifying that water, and it would be left with no other option but to stop supplying water to the citizens of Hyderabad.
