Punjab Religious Affairs Minister Syed Saeedul Hassan has said that to restore the beauty of Masjid Wazir Khan and Shahi Hamam, shops would be removed and alternative place would be provided to the 117 tenants of shops at Allah Rakha Trust Delhi Gate.

He was presiding over a meeting held to review renovation, repair and beautification of Masjid Wazir Khan at the Aiwan-e-Auqaf here on Friday, a press release said.

Religious Affairs and Auqaf Secretary Javed Iqbal Awan, Auqaf Directors for projects and finance, administrator Data Darbar, officers of district government, archaeology and Lahore Development Authority (LDA) were also present on the occasion.

It was decided that steps would be taken to restore the initial grandeur and historical significance of Masjid Wazir Khan and Shahi Hamam to attract local and foreign tourists.

The minister also stressed upon the concerned officers to take all necessary measures to protect both historical buildings from seepage from the existing sewerage system.

He observed that suitable parking space should also be ensured at the sites to prevent inconvenience to visitors.
