Pakistan Muslim League candidate and Prime Minister-designate Shaukat Aziz has won from NA-59 Attock-III and leading with a big margin in the Tharparkar constituency.

According to unofficial results announced by Election Commission of Pakistan from all 253 polling stations in NA-59 Attock-III, Shaukat Aziz bagged 75,271 votes and his main rival Pakistan People's Party Parliamentarians' Dr Sikandar Hayat getting 29,934 votes.

There are 238,469 registered voters in this constituency.

In NA-229 Tharparkar-I, Shaukat Aziz was leading his rival candidate by bagging 135,361 votes while his closest rival PPPP's Dr Mahesh Kumar Malani bagged 10,132 votes.

There are 251,579 registered voters in this constituency and the Election Commission has set up total 220 polling stations and so far the Election Commission has received the results from 188 polling stations.

In a statement, soon after the announcement of unofficial results declaring him successful in the by-elections on both the seats of NA-59 Attock and NA-229 Tharparkar, Shaukat thanked Allah Almighty for blessing him with success in the by-elections.

Newly elected member of the National Assembly from Attock and Tharparkar and Prime Minister-designate, Shaukat Aziz reiterated his resolve to further accelerate the agenda of economic development for the prosperity of country and the welfare of the people.

"I am thankful to Allah Almighty for bestowing me with success in the by-elections," he said.

Shaukat also thanked the voters of Attock and Tharparkar for electing him with big margin by casting their votes in his favour.

While quoting local and foreign media, who visited various polling stations in both the constituencies on Wednesday, he said that by-elections were held in a free, fair and peaceful atmosphere.

Shaukat promised to further accelerate efforts towards the ongoing economic agenda, for the socio-economic development, which has led to stability of economy.

"It is our pledge that under the prudent policies of President Pervez Musharraf and under the leadership of President of Pakistan Muslim League, Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain we will make all efforts and utilise our abilities to make Pakistan a modern, progressive and enlightened Islamic welfare state," he said.

He also expressed his gratitude to the Cabinet colleagues, PML leaders, workers, members of the national and provincial assemblies, senators, his friends and supporters who actively participated in the election campaign which led to his victory by huge margins.
