Awais Ahmed Khan Laghari, Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication, declared this here on Tuesday at Prime Minister Shujaat Hussain's press conference.
The minister said that the PTCL has 7,193 daily-wage workers since 1993, but they were not absorbed on permanent basis.
"In the light of President Musharraf's instructions and policies of the present government, more than half of the daily-wage workers are being given permanent status, in the first phase," he added.
The minister further said that the newly absorbed employees would enjoy the entire incentives including leave, house rent, medicine, gratuity and transportation.
He said that the remaining workers would be given permanent jobs in the next phase soon.
He said that there would not be any financial burden on the PTCL due to the new induction of the daily wagers on permanent basis.
Annual recurring expenditure is estimated Rs 193 million in lieu of pay and allowances to these employees but it would enhance services and productive capacity of PTCL, he added.
About new recruitment he said PTCL would give jobs according to market situation and after resolving the issue of the remaining temporary workers.
The workers would be given special training to enhance their working efficiency, he said.
He said that government of PML has taken a concrete decision to resolve the prolonged issue, which had been held in abeyance by previous governments.
