In this regard, a delegation headed by Sindh Chief Minister Dr Ghulam Arbab Rahim is leaving for Germany on August 8.
Provincial Mines and Minerals Minister Irfanullah Khan Marwat stated this at a press conference here on Tuesday.
"We will return from Germany with a commitment from that power producer for a 1,000MW power plant," Marwat said, who will be a part of the delegation.
He said that the German power firm is generating about 35,000MW power, which is equivalent to the entire capacity of Pakistan.
The negotiations are being held with the German power firm, which generates 10,000MW electricity only by utilising coal.
Marwat said the proven coal reserves in Sindh province are up to the tune of 184.123 billion tonnes, of these 175.506 billion tonnes are lying in Thar alone, while Sunda (Thatta) have 7.112 billion tonnes followed by Lakhra 1.328 billion tonnes, Jhimpir 0.161 billion tonnes and Badin 0.016 billion tonnes, respectively.
For coal exploration, Thar has been divided into four zonal blocks, of which one block has been given to Chinese company and they were already working on one block for setting up two power plants of 300MW each.
The second block would likely to be allotted to German power producer, while Ukraine and Turkey have also shown their interest for the remaining two blocks.
"We desire to attract more and more foreign investment," he said, adding that the government is focussing on the mineral resources of Sindh whether they are in Thar or elsewhere.
Marwat said that the drilling for coal would be initiated in Badin and Dadu in next six weeks.
"We would carry out a survey of the so-called exhausted areas as far as coal is concerned, he said. He was optimistic that encouraging results would emerge. He said that infrastructure was made available in Thar region.
He said the federal government has assured assistance towards the infrastructure development to further attract potential foreign investment in the waterlogged Thar region.
Captain Rashid Abro, Country Manager, Noble Energy Pakistan, and Rasheed Barket, Chief Executive, Pacific Chartering and Trading Company, were also present on the occasion.
