The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) has been invited to become a member of the Asia-Africa Chamber of Commerce which is being developed with UNDP assistance to promote economic co-operation between businessmen of Asia and Africa.

This was stated by Dr Hae-Jung Jung, Vice Chairmen of Asia-Africa Chamber of Commerce Consultative Committee during meeting with FPCCI president Riaz Ahmed Tata in the Federation House, here on Monday.

Dr Jung said the Asia-Africa Chamber of Commerce was conceived as a consultative body and resource centre, involving members from African and Asian private sectors with a clear mandate for discussion on policy issues and alleviation of constraints affecting trade and investment between the two regions.

The idea of Asia-Africa chamber was conceived at the second Tokyo International conference on Africa development and to continue the efforts already undertaken by the United Nations Development Programme towards greater South-south co-operation.

Riaz Tata welcomed the proposal and assured that FPCCI will surely become member of the proposed chamber.

Another mission will visit FPCCI on 13th August 2004, to continue the discussion towards the establishment of proposed chamber.
