A member of Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) has approached the august court praying to direct the respondent government to restrain the people of Pakistan from using the national flag on the occasion of the Independence Day or any other occasion.

The petitioner, M D Tahir, contended that to protect the prestige and sanctity of the national flag, it is necessary to restrain the people from hoisting the flag on their houses, shops and vehicles.

The petitioner was of the view that display of flags/banners was a common practice in the month of August. But the situation turns worst when people throw these flags on grounds on the streets, which causes disrespect to the national flag, he said.

The chief justice of the Lahore High Court (LHC) while issuing roster for summer vacations observed that no notice case shall be fixed/heard during this period unless ordered by the learned bench.

He also observed that urgency of a case shall be determined by the office of the august court.

The habeas corpus petitions or detention matters, anticipatory bail applications, petitions seeking injunctions/stay order in cases of imminent threat of irreparable loss and any other matter involving urgency, which might be permitted by the senior vacation judge available at the principal seat or at the benches will be fixed for hearing during the vacation period.

At the benches, the urgent division bench cases of imminent threat of irreparable loss shall also be dealt with qua urgent relief by the single judge.

The registry, however, shall remain open and all categories of cases might be filed during the period.
