Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has said that a master plan has been evolved for the development of livestock sector for meeting milk and meat requirements of the province, and a company would be set up under private-public partnership for the implementation of corporate livestock farming project.

He said this while presiding over a high-level meeting regarding promotion of livestock sector here on Monday. Punjab Chief Secretary Kamran Rasool, Chairman P&D Salman Ghani, Secretary Finance Salman Siddique and Secretary Livestock Ather Tahir were also present.

The CM said that a livestock help-line was being set up for providing medical assistance and technical guidance to the livestock farmers and investors. "Experts in livestock would be available on the help-line for the benefit of the farmers and cattle breeders. Moreover, mobile units were being set up in Okara, Sahiwal, Jhang and Muzaffargarh for providing medical and technical assistance to the farmers at their doorsteps," he added.

He further said, under the new master plan, cattle would be purchased from Zakat fund for the deserving persons for their economic rehabilitation.

He directed that marketing process of livestock should be completed with the collaboration of agriculture department and agriculture marketing and livestock departments should evolve a comprehensive scheme for the marketing of milk and meat production.

He also directed to undertake a survey to provide more facilities in the livestock sector.

He said that a comprehensive programme has been chalked out for the training of farmers to promote livestock sector and a research and development center would be established for the promotion of livestock sector on scientific lines.

Moreover, two slaughterhouses of international standard would be established, he added.
