England won the second Test by 256 runs at Edgbaston with more than a day to spare but Lara, in his second spell as skipper of the slumping Caribbean side, said he will stay on in the job - at least until the end of the current four-match series.
"It's impossible to even think about that at the moment. I have the job to do as captain until the fourth Test at The Oval. My employers will decide whether or not I step down," said Lara.
"I am committed to West Indies cricket. I was asked back to do this job and I am doing the best I can."
Spinner Ashley Giles took five wickets to lead England to victory which gave them a 2-0 lead in the four-match series after the 210-run win at Lord's.
On Sunday, the West Indies had been bowled out for 222 with only Chris Gayle, with 82, offering any resistance. "The toss was more important here than at Lord's because the pitch became very dry," added Lara who fell seven runs short of becoming only the fourth player to make 10,000 Test match runs.
Victorious England skipper Michael Vaughan praised another solid all-round team effort but the highlights were man-of-the-match Andrew Flintoff's first innings 167, Marcus Trescothick's two innings of 105 and 107 and Giles's match-haul of nine wickets.
