Four persons, including a police Havaldar, were killed in Chaman during a violent protest triggered by arrest of a local Awami National Part (ANP) leader from the area by the crimes branch police.

Chaman Levies and police sources confirmed on telephone on Saturday morning.

Jilani Khan Ashayzai was arrested by police on Friday evening. The supporters of the arrested leader resorted to violence.

During the armed clash, a police Havaldar Abdul Rahim received bullet injuries and died. Three other persons, one of them identified as Shahswar, also died during the violence.

The identity of the other man could not be ascertained immediately.
