Minister for Privatisation Dr Abdul Hafeez Sheikh and a number of eminent persons participated in the launching ceremony of "Ghulam Faruque Khan Revolutionary builder of Pakistan", a book written by Shareef Faruque.
Besides the Privatisation Minister, Amir Faruque, grandson of Ghulam Faruque, Zahid Malik, editor of Pakistan Observer, Professor Dr Riaz Ahmed Professor of Institute of History, Shareef Faruque and Ghazanfar Mehdi of PTDC spoke on the occasion.
Hafeez Sheikh said that Wapda and PIDC were glorious legacies of Ghulam Faruque Khan, who was a self-made man. Industrial developments in the NWFP and setting up of heavy mechanical Complex are some of his accomplishments. Energetic and highly dedicated, Ghulam Faruque had a Midas touch, as whatever he touched was turned into gold.
The Minister added that Ghulam Faruque was a courageous and honest bureaucrat who was not afraid of taking bold initiatives. He had strong decision making power, even at great personal risk, and had tremendous faith in youth. He stated that book presents an over all picture of Ghulam Faruque`s upright and eventful life.
Deputy Director General of PTDC Ghazanfar Mehdi, who hosted this ceremony, referred to a number of pioneering efforts of Ghulam Faruque in the engineering and industrial fields.
Zahid Malik said that Ghulam Faruque has provided solid services to Pakistan in its early years. Tremendous development process could not be achieved if PIDC had not been set up in 1950s and Tarbela and Mangla Dam were not built in 1960. Behind all these projects were the relentless efforts of Ghulam Faruque.
Amir Faruque spoke affectionately of his Grandfather, he added that Ghulam Faruque always believed that the new generation must be granted decision-making powers.
