Car sales during FY04 stood at 96,674 units, against 61,955 units in previous year, portraying 56 percent upsurge.
Sales of all major car manufacturers recorded a considerable growth. With the exception of trucks sales which portrayed a minor one percent decline to 1,868 units, all other vehicles depicted an increase. Motorcycles, tractors, LCV's and buses depicted 86 percent, 34 percent and 21 percent and 2 percent growth respectively.
According to Jahangir Siddiqui Capital Investments Co, Indus Motors FY04 sales soared by 43 percent to 29,113 units compared to 20,307 units last year. Though overall sales of the company recovered 3 percent on month to month basis in June 2004 sales of its main brand Toyota Corolla continued to dip.
Nonetheless, sales for the entire year of Indus Motors models Corolla and Cuore at 20,301 and 6,393 units depicted respective increases of 58 percent and 40 percent whereas Hilux recorded a 16 percent decline.The brokerage house said that Dewan Motors (DFML) (the only Korean car manufacturer in Pakistan) unit sales during the year under review stood at 12,031 units as against 8,077 units during the previous year.
This increase partly reflected the low base effect as Dewan Santro's production was suspended for three months on the back of a switch-over to the new model. Santro sales, the company's flagship model, during the year stood at 6,922 units, a 121 percent growth over the previous year.
Pak Suzuki Motor Company's sales during January-June 2004 stood at 31,257 units, 35 percent higher compared to 23,163 units during the corresponding period of previous year. During the period, sale of all its brands depicted a tremendous growth with Mehran, Baleno, Alto and Cultus increasing respectively by 41 percent, 40 percent, 39 percent and 24 percent.
Honda Atlas Cars sales depicted a 71 percent upsurge to 4,184 units compared to 2,446 units during the corresponding months of the preceding year. Honda Civic sales stood at 2,483 units as against 1,363 units last year. Honda City sales also increased to 1,701 units compared to 1,083 units previously. Recently, the company launched its Honda Civic 2004 model. In addition, the company also increased its production on the back of expected appreciable growth in the automobile segment boding extremely favourable for future profitability.
