Well-placed sources told Business Recorder that the decision has been conveyed to all government ministries and divisions through a notification No 1 (1) 2004-Admin-VI issued here on Saturday.
According to sources, the president secretariat took the decision, as low-level officials who appeared in private TV talk shows could not elaborate government policies in its actual context.
Sources said that top-level government officials thought that the success of official policies largely depended upon their 'effective' propagation among the public.
To achieve this end, sources said, government has asked top-level officials to have constant liaison with print and electronic media organisations.
According to sources, the information ministry has been given the task to nominate a representative from each ministry and division to respond media queries.
Sources said that the government would take disciplinary action against anybody other than the nominated officials found 'guilty' of providing any sort of information to media.
The information ministry would act as a co-ordination agency between media and different ministries and divisions for the smooth implementation of these decisions, sources added.
