The preparations are on hand for launching Pakistan Bridge University at Karachi in July this year. This will be an institution one of its kind in the whole of this region for the promotion and development of bridge activity in the country. The PBU will function and operate on the lines of Bridge University of France with the curriculum of British bridge schools.

Initially, a board consisting of five members has been formed to conduct the affairs of the university; namely.Tariq Rasheed, Rashid ul Ghazi, Pevez Mirza Sultan Siddiqui and Khalid Mohiuddin. The aims and objects of the university are mainly directed towards promoting bridge movement and also improve the standard of the game in the country. An elaborate scheme has been devised to effect improvement including: -

1. To attract people of young age to take up bridge as an intellectual pastime.

2. To develop playing skill among students of school/ college/university level.

3. To conduct special training tournament and sessions with coaching facilities.

4. To maintain records and analyses of the tournaments with comments by experts.

5. To organize special programmes for new entrants to the game as a hobby.

6. To introduce duplicate bridge in clubs, academies and civilian and armed forces institutions.

7. To provide training programmes to players and teams at provincial and national level under expert guidance.

The establishment of Pakistan Bridge University is being considered by some of the leading bridge players of the country as a landmark development in this intellectual sport and it will certainly contribute towards Pakistani talents repeating significant performance in the region and Bermuda Bowl in early eighties.

The Pakistan Bridge University would be an affiliated body of Pakistan Bridge Federation and the PBU would function as a non-profit organization in close coordination with the Federation in organizing bridge promotional activities on the national scale.

The panel of experts and consultants are in the process of formulation and will be announced at the time of the actual launching in July.

The presidents of the regional bridge associations have hailed the move of Pakistan Bridge University as an important development for the betterment of the game in the country.

Jan-e-Alam Fazli- the only World Life Master in this region and zone ( as Zia Mahmood, the other World Life Master has taken U.S. nationality) and one of the important players of Pakistani bridge team which reached the finals of the Bermuda Bowl in 1981 creating history for Asian country to compete in world bridge finals, says "The establishing of Pakistan Bridge University is a noble task and a sincere effort in that direction would certainly enhance the image of the country as a bridge playing nation. Young players will take the place of old guards to ensure a position of respectability among the comity of bridge playing countries." "My services are available for imparting guidance and lectures on the finer points of the game whenever I am called upon to do so by the organizers." He sincerely wished for the success of the project.
