Pakistan and Thailand signed an agreement on combating terrorism Thursday during the second day of a visit to the kingdom by Prime Minister Zafarullah Jamali, Thai officials said.

Thai government spokesman Jakrapob Penkair said on Thursday that Jamali and Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra had also discussed increased Thai investment in Pakistan.

"He (Jamali) invited Thai businessmen to invest in oil and natural gas," he said.

Thaksin accepted an invitation from Jamali to visit Pakistan at an as yet unnamed date.

The spokesman said Thailand also raised the topic of co-operation between the Asian Co-operation Dialog (ACD) grouping and the South Asian Association for Regional Co-operation (Saarc).

"Our prime minister proposed that if the two groups could co-operate it would lead to closer relations," he said.

The two leaders also witnessed the signing of memorandums of understanding (MoUs) on science and technology co-operation, combating terrorism and arrangements on greater diplomatic consultation and co-operation.

The MoU on terrorism and other crimes set the framework for the two nations to work more closely on intelligence information gathering and sharing and to combat human trafficking.

Jamali had an audience with Thailand's King Bhumibol Adulyadej at his seaside palace south of Bangkok after the signings before returning to the capital for a banquet in his honour hosted by Thaksin.

He is scheduled to wrap up his three-day visit on Friday after laying a corner stone for a new Pakistani embassy.
