The session covered issues regarding economic and political liberalisation, as well as the role of institutions in public sector in reforming public finances.
Winding up the session, the minister highlighted Pakistan's experience of excellent record of economic performance, and stable public finances, which have helped in increasing economic growth in the country.
He said Pakistan's leadership has played a pivotal role in ensuring fiscal responsibility, besides helping revive the economy in order to improve the living standard of the people of Pakistan.
John Tayler, under-secretary, US Department of Treasury, also spoke on the occasion.
The conference attracted leading thinkers and economic practitioners from across the world, including academia, government and multilateral organisations.
The two-day IMF conference is entitled: "The Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region - the challenges of growth and globalisation."
It has attracted participation from all countries in the region. In the IMF, Pakistan is included as a Middle Eastern country.
IMF Managing Director Carsten inaugurated the conference on Thursday.
On Friday Hafeez has a busy schedule of engagements, meeting senior officers of the State Department, US Exim Bank, Overseas Private Investment Corporation and the US Chamber.
