The Alliance of Trade Unions of Transport Workers (ATUTW) Pakistan on Monday staged a demonstration outside the Karachi Press Club to express solidarity with the protesting dockers of container terminals in Madagascar and Indonesia.

They also backed their demands for wage increases. On a call from the International Transport Workers Federation (ITF), the member trade unions of the ATUTW Pakistan including KPT Democratic Workers Union, Pakistan Seamen's Union, KDLB Democratic Workers Union, Railways Workers Unions, PIA Workers Union and Workers Union Railways participated in the demonstration.

Their members chanted slogans against the International Containers Terminal Services (ICTSL). The representative of ATUTW Pakistan, Abdul Razzaq Memon spoke to the protesters and vowed that his alliance would continue to raise voice for the rights of dockers across the world. He emphasised that the Ictsl should meet the dockers demands in Madagascar and Indonesia. He said that the dockers in Madagascar and Indonesia continued to suffer from lack of facilities and low-wages. He said that dockers were fired by the terminal operators for their struggle to attain legitimate rights in the respective countries. He called for their job security with wage increases.
