The Punjab government has decided to establish model graveyards in every district of the province under the arrangements of "Punjab Shehr-e-Khamushan Authority". This was announced by Secretary Auqaf Punjab Abdul Jabbar Shaheen during the visit of under construction model graveyard at Satiana road near Bypass chowk. Divisional Commissioner Momin Agha, Deputy Commissioner Salman Ghani, Mayor Municipal Corporation Muhammad Razzaq Malik, Chairman Zila Council Chaudhry Zahid Nazir, Director Local Govt Rai Wajid Ali and other officers were also present on the occasion.

The Secretary Auqaf, while visiting different sections of the model graveyard said that the organised graveyards are imperative to get more benefits of available space. He said graveyards are also part of our social life and establishment of new graveyards are necessary due to the population explosion. The Secretary further said the CM Punjab Shahbaz Sharif had constituted a committee under the chairmanship of Provincial Minister for Local Govt Mansha Ullah Butt for submitting his report after identification of land in the different district of the Punjab in next few days and to proceed further in the matter.

He informed that the Janazagah, flower shops, mortuary, ablution, administrative block, rooms for guards and grave workers, parking area, lights, water supply, sewerage system and other necessary facilities would be provided in these model graveyards besides allotting the numbers to the graves. Adding he said a big bus would also be arranged for transporting the people to participate in the funeral prayers and a computerised system would be in place for the affairs of management of model graveyards. He directed for early completion of departmental matters for the selection of land to establish the model graveyards in the four districts of Faisalabad division.

Commissioner Momin Agha and Deputy Commissioner Salman Ghani briefed the Secretary about the construction status of model graveyards and informed that the graveyard was near completion on the 92 canal lands with the funds of Rs 92.5 million with the capacity of 4000 graves. The DC informed that land for model graveyards had already been selected at tehsil Jaranwala, Samundri and Chak Jhumra. Mayor Faisalabad Municipal Corporation Muhammad Razzaq Malik and Chairman Zila Council Chaudhry Zahid Nazir appreciated the steps of CM Punjab for the establishment of model graveyards in every district of the Punjab and said that a new culture would be developed from this measure and organised graveyards would be established by using available space for maximum purpose.

Later, Secretary Auqaf Abdul Jabbar Shaheen along with Divisional Commissioner Momin Agha left for districts Toba Tek Singh, Jhang and Chiniot to review the selected land for the establishment of model graveyards. Acting Deputy Commissioner TT Singh Kashif Ali, DC Jhang Mudassar Riaz Malik and ADC Chiniot Tariq Niazi briefed the Secretary about the selection of land for the model graveyards.
