The Lahore Tax Bar Association (LTBA) has demanded extension in the last date for filing of income tax returns up to 30th November, 2017. President LTBA Chaudhry Qamar-uz-Zaman has written a letter to Chairman Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) for an extension in the date of filing of income tax return/statements for the tax year 2017. The attention was drawn to the fact that the Board had notified income tax return/statement of final taxation through an SRO 819(I)/2017 on 17-8-2017 and uploaded it on portal for e-filing on 19-8-2017.

The letter pointed out that the last date of filing income tax return/statement of final taxation for salaried individuals and persons falling under the regime was already extended up to 30-9-2017. It further highlighted that the Board had issued last draft of wealth statement and manual income tax return SRO on 20-9-2017 and invited objections and suggestions within seven days of the publication of this notification.

The president LTBA said the law has provided three-month statutory time to file income tax returns/statements. In addition, the public holidays on account of Hajj, Eid-ul-Azha and Ashura have also affected the time for preparation and filing of income tax return/statements.

He urged the FBR to notify the manual income tax return/statements of final taxation, wealth statement along with wealth reconciliation statement immediately while extending the date to 30th November, 2017 to facilitate genuine taxpayer contributing regularly to the exchequer as a moral and legal obligation.
