International Apparel Federation's first regional office will be inaugurated this month in Sialkot to support Pakistan's fashion industry. For the first time, Han Bekke IAF President and Matthijs Crietee Secretary General IAF will visit Pakistan to inaugurate the regional office of IAF on 27th of this month. The office has been set up in the newly-constructed building of Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PRGMEA) in Sialkot.

Ijaz Khokhar, Chairman PRGMEA and Executive Board Member IAF told Business Recorder Tuesday that presently the head office of IAF is located in Netherlands and this will be the first regional office. "It will be an honor for Pakistan and textile sector that leading IAF leadership is visiting Pakistan to facilitate the apparel and fashion industry," he said and added that this is very positive development in the textile industry of Pakistan that IAF is being established in Pakistan.

"We believe that the establishment of IAF office in Pakistan will open new avenues for the textile industry for liaison with international buyers and leading brands," he said. Besides, granting domestic membership to garment manufacturers, this office will also help hold B2B meetings among importers and exporters of apparel sector across the world, he said.

IAF is already providing support and information services to its members with several activities to bring the members together and with this office the support will be extended to the textile industry of Pakistan, he added. Khokhar said IAF's mission statement is to unite all stakeholders of the fashion industry, including brands, retailers, manufacturers, suppliers and country associations from around the world to enable and promote smarter, stronger, more sustainable supply chains.

He said the IAF is a unique platform for textile industry because it is the only global federation for the apparel industry and particularly because it unites buyers and manufacturers in one federation. Chairman PRGMEA informed that apparel industry is the one of the largest industry of the world with $ 2 trillion share in retail market and tens of millions of employees worldwide.

Talking about the IAF, he said leading industrialists founded the IAF in 1972 with a dream to bring together apparel manufacturers from all over the world. "Building bridges between continents by promoting common business interests, by encouraging best practice and supporting apparel manufacturers and marketers worldwide to promote the apparel industry was also an aim of IAF," he added.

Khokhar said presently IAF has become the world's leading federation for apparel manufacturers, brands, retailers, their associations, and the supporting industry. Some 40 countries' apparel associations are members of IAF representing over 20 million employees, he added. He said the IAF will address major issues being faced by the textile industry of Pakistan and bring those issues to limelight. "Compliance, gender training and exchange of delegation will also be focused through this office," he added.
