Begum Kulsoom Nawaz, contestant from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) emerged victorious in the by-election to National Assembly from Lahore constituency NA-120 that was held here on Sunday amid stringent security arrangements by the law-enforcing agencies. According to unofficial results, Kulsoom Nawaz secured 61,254 votes while Dr Yasmin Rashid of the PTI was her closest rival with 47,066 votes. Sheikh Yaqoob, an independent candidate who enjoyed support of the MML secured third position with 3,500 votes while PPP could get only 2,520 votes.

Maryam Nawaz who spearheaded election campaign of her mother remained present at Model Town along with other party leaders including Talal Chaudhry, Mohammad Pervaiz Malik, Danyal Aziz, Shaista Pervaiz Malik, Maryam Aurangzeb, Khawaja Imran Nazir.

Nawaz made a telephonic contact with his daughter Maryam and expressed satisfaction with the way the PML-N election campaign was managed. Nawaz, however, claimed he has received many complaints from the NA-120 constituency. He alleged that some voters went missing from the constituency.

Maryam handled the NA-120 campaign while her mother and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz contender for the by-poll was under treatment for lymphoma in London. In her tweet, Maryam expressed gratitude to Allah Almighty saying "Today's contest was between the PML-N and all others. Fourth-time, again." While addressing the cheering PML-N workers and supporters at Model Town, she congratulated the, calling them PML-N 'tigers.' "Nawaz Sharif called me and asked me to thank people of the constituency," she said, adding that people in the constituency had proved that they loved Nawaz Sharif and now, it's the time for Imran Khan to weep.

She said that over 60 thousand votes equalled six million votes. She said she knew what's happening to PML-N people for the last two days. She said PML-N supporters were picked up by those whose faces were covered with black clothes and they are still missing. "You defeated those who are not seen. This is the victory of righteousness," she said, adding that the PML-N was all alone in this fight, but defeated all conspirators. She said people had rejected the verdict against Nawaz Sharif. She said the people have proved that Nawaz Sharif is still their prime minister, regardless of the SC verdict. She said that the people had given their verdict. She said that the voters who were carrying "voters list with symbol of lion" were not allowed to cast votes.

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif congratulated Kulsoom Nawaz, people, PML-N officials, workers and voters for the victory in by-election. He said that the triumph of Begum Kalsum Nawaz depicts the confidence of public in the leadership and performance of Pakistan Muslim League-N. "Results of the by-election have proved that the hearts of the people beat for the PML-N," he said, imploring Allah Almighty for quick recuperation of Begum Kulsoom Nawaz so she could personally visit the people of this constituency. He said that they are thankful to Allah for this wonderful victory.

PML-N senior leader Khawaja Saad Rafique told the media that results of NA-120 by-poll reflected that the people of Lahore had not accepted verdict of the Panama case. He said there were long queues of people at 5 pm outside polling stations but no extension in the polling time was made. Another round of "Ro Imran Ro" is going to start. He said that thousands of votes of the PML-N could not be polled. On the other hand, the PTI candidate Dr Yasmin Rashid told the media that struggle is not over and she would pursue her 25 petitions in the Election Commission, which is not working efficiently. She said she would not accept results until verification of 29,000 votes. She said she would announce future strategy on Monday (today).
