The Punjab Assembly on Wednesday passed a resolution in favour of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif with majority votes amid slogans of "thief; thief" chanted by opposition members. The government also passed resolutions for extending three ordinances, and tabled six ordinances and introduced three bills in the Assembly.

The session of the Punjab Assembly started one hour late under the chair of Speaker Punjab Assembly Rana Muhammad Iqbal. The government taking full advantage of absence of Opposition leader from the Assembly passed a resolution in favour of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif. The resolution was presented by provincial minister Khalil Tahir Sindhu.

According to the resolution, the house acknowledged the services of former prime minister for making the country an atomic power and initiating China-Pakistan Economic Corridor to bring economic prosperity to the country besides launching operations such as Zarb-e-Azb and Radd-ul-Fasaad in the country. The House reiterated its commitment towards Nawaz Sharif and pledged to fight against conspiracies hatched against former PM on legal and political fronts.

Earlier, the House passed resolutions for extension of the Parks and Horticultural Authority (Amendment) Ordinance (IX OF 2017), Dera Ghazi Khan Development Authority (Repeal) Ordinance (X Of 2017) and Punjab Criminal Prosecution Service (Constitution, Functions And Powers) (Amendment) Ordinance (XI of 2017).

As many as six ordinances were laid in the House which includes The Parks and Horticultural Authority (Amendment) Ordinance, 2017, The Dera Ghazi Khan Development Authority (Repeal) Ordinance 2017, The Punjab Criminal Prosecution Service (Constitution, Functions And Powers) (Amendment) Ordinance 2017, The Punjab Maintenance of Public Order (Amendment) Ordinance 2017, The Punjab Local Government (Amendment) Ordinance 2017 and The Punjab Education initiatives Management Authority Ordinance 2017.
