Punjab Industrial Estates Development and Management Company (PIEDMC) Chief Executive Officer Shairyar Salim Bhalwal hoped that the Bhalwal Industrial Estate would get the status of special economic zone (SEZ) soon. According to the company's spokesman, Shairyar Salim further said that the federal government is also extending similar status to another two estates situated at Rahim Yar Khan and Vehari districts. The Punjab government has provided an integrated infrastructure in these industrial estates to attract foreign direct investment and to reduce the environmental and social impact of the industrial uses, he said.

Bhalwal is close to M-2 Motorway to which it is being connected by three interchanges. Salam interchange is very near to the city. Bhalwal citrus fruits (including oranges) are very famous in the country as well as all over the world, he added. The Estate's Project Director briefed the chief executive officer about the status of development work and said the 429-acres Bhalwal Industrial Estate is being developed in two phases. He assured that the civil work in phase-II would be completed by 30th September 2017.
