The rupee managed to keep overnight firmness against the dollar on the money market on Wednesday in the process of trading, dealers said. The rupee was unchanged in relation to the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 106.30 and Rs 106.50 respectively, they said. The rupee lost 25 paisas in terms of the euro for buying and selling at Rs 124.25 and Rs 125.50 respectively, they said.

OPEN MARKET RATES: INTER-BANK MARKET RATES: The rupee stayed put against the dollar for buying and selling at Rs 105.40 and Rs 105.41 respectively, they said.

In the third Asian trade, the dollar edged down against the yen after US President Donald Trump raised the spectre of a government shutdown to fulfil a campaign pledge, but overall moves among major currencies were limited ahead of this week's Jackson Hole global central bankers' conference.

The dollar was last off slightly on the day at 109.53 yen after touching a low of 109.37, down from around 109.67 before Trump's statement and below an earlier session high of 109.83 yen.

The dollar was trading against the Indian rupee at Rs 64.130, the greenback was at 4.280 in terms of the Malaysian ringgit and the US currency was at 6.662 in relation the Chinese yuan.

RUPEE IN LAHORE: The Pak rupee depreciated on buying side while it stayed unchanged on selling side in relation to the US dollar in the local currency market on Wednesday.

According to currency dealers, the trading activity of the US dollar resumed on its overnight trend of Rs 106.20 and Rs 106.50 as it's buying and selling rates respectively. At the close, it appreciated by 15-paisa on buying counter and ended at Rs 106.35. However, no change in its value took place on selling counter as it maintained its opening trend of Rs 106.50, they added.

Furthermore, the rupee showed strength as it registered appreciation versus the pound sterling. The pound's buying and selling rates slid from Tuesday's closing rates of Rs 134.80 and Rs 137.60 to Rs 134.50 and Rs 137.30 respectively, they said.

RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The rupee remained firm against the dollar at the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi here on Wednesday.

The dollar opened at Rs 107.10 (buying) and Rs 107.20 (selling) against same last rate. It closed at Rs 107.10 (buying) and Rs 107.20 (selling) in evening session.
