District Nazim Karak Dr Umer Daraz Khattak presented the annual budget for the year 2017-18 in district council with total outlay of Rs 4.46 billion and presented a new idea of establishing model villages in the district with full facilities. Budget session was held here on Thursday at district council Karak which was attended by all elected district councilors. While presenting annual budget in the council, the district Nazim informed that Rs 80.32 million has been earmarked as discretionary funds of the district council and added that Rs 360.13 million would be spent on the uplift projects in the district.

Mr Khattak claimed that Rs 210 million would be utilized on the ongoing developmental projects and the remaining would be incurred on the new uplift schemes in the district. District Nazim added that Rs 30.2 million would be spent on new projects in education department, Rs 10.51 million on women development & agriculture and Rs 20.26 million would be spent on the promotion of sports activities in the district.

Mr Khattak further said to the council that model villages would be established in the remote areas of the district where all basic facilities would be provided. He elaborated that pilot projects would be initiated in each tehsil of the district and one backward village would be selected to make it a model village.

District Nazim claimed that the budget was people friendly and added that he was enjoying full support of the district councilors of his party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and allied parties in the council. The opposition members led by the Opposition Leader Maulana Mirzaqeem and three district councilors of PTI including Azmat Khattak, Sikandar Azam and Malik Hayat chanted slogans in the council and demanded that last year's budget should be debated first. They alleged that the budget for the year 2016-17 has not been passed from the council but the district Nazim was utilizing it illegally without giving any shares to the opposition district councilors in it.

They tore the copies of the budget and claimed that they had lodged a complaint in the local council board against the district Nazim regarding the last year's budget. They regretted that despite the cancellation of the uplift budget of last year by the provincial government, district Nazim was utilizing it unlawfully. They categorically rejected the budget with a demand to discuss the last year's budget in the council first. The convener Sajjad adjourned the meeting till today to pass the budget from the council.
