Pharmacists community in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has welcomed the recent amendments in Drugs Rules 2017, and demanded of the provincial government to ensure its implementation with true letter and spirit across the province.

Addressing at a news conference at Peshawar Press Club on Monday, Pakistan Pharmacists Association Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (PPA-KP) General Secretary, Ihsan Ullah said that the step was taken in the best interest of people and patients, which should not be revised on behest of few opportunists. He added that consultations were being made with all relevant stakeholders before the formal approval of amendments but, he said some people had opposed the decision and demanding for its immediate withdrawal, which was unacceptable to them. Earlier, he informed that the amendments had brought in Drugs Rule 1982. He said that the incumbent provincial government had made changes in the rules after 35 years, which would be beneficial for the people and patients. He alleged the some people are making the decision controversial for their vested interest. Accompanied by Professor Dr Farman from Kohat University, the association Information Secretary Saeed Anwar and other office-bearers, he said the amendments in Drug Rules as part of the incumbent provincial government health reforms agenda, which is merely aimed at to provide quality medicines and drugs through qualified and certified people.

Ihsan Ullah said the provincial government is authorized to regulate the sale and purchase of medicines under the drugs rules. While rejecting apprehensions to generate unemployment after amendments, he clarified that the government decision would create job opportunities for qualified people instead of any joblessness in the province. He warned that they would not accept any revision in the recent amendments in Drugs Rules 2017. He urged the provincial government to not take any demands by certain quarter seriously in this regard, and demanded to ensure implementation of Drugs Rules with its true letter and spirit across the province.
