This is apropos a Business Recorder op-ed "The state of this democracy" carried by the newspaper yesterday. The writer, Saida Fazal, has pointed out that "the court has the authority to ask any organisation, including the army, for help which could include relevant media reaction. That in no way should affect the army's status as an institution subservient to the executive. There is nothing unconstitutional and hence objectionable about its role in the JIT."

The apex court has done no injustice to the Sharif family by making the two army officials part of the six-member joint investigation team. They are there as investigators as part of a broader probe that perhaps also warrants the participation of even foreign experts excelling in investigations of white-collar crimes. The government is eroding its own credibility by unleashing a variety of attacks on the investigation team.
