"Punjab Information Technology Board's flagship project e-Stamping has shown an unprecedented success with remarkable results in the shortest span of 12 months by generating the revenue of worth Rs 30.243 billion, which is a record after the launch of judicial and non-judicial e-Stamps. The old system used to fetch Rs 20 to 22 billion proceeds through the sale of Stamp papers through a lengthy and time consuming process."

Dr Umar Saif, founding Vice Chancellor of Information Technology University, Advisor to CM Punjab and Chairman PITB expressed these views while reviewing the performance of e-Stamping project, here on Friday.

Till now 1,246,600 citizens have visited the e-Stamping website. Total e-Stamp papers (Judicial, non-judicial) that have been issued through this system are 1,180,414, out of which 1,102,399 are non-judicial and 78,015 are judicial e-Stamp papers. Dr Umar Saif said that the project has brought historic change through technology in Punjab by replacing a century-old system with the innovative, technology based system, which raised record proceeds through a citizen friendly system by eliminating the fiscal drainage and malpractices of the past. The outstanding achievement of this project was a proof of trust and confidence reposed by the people through acceptance of the automated of service, equally beneficial for the masses and the government at large, he added.

The Chairman PITB said that e-Stamping was a step towards generating revenue through technology in most transparent way and to eradicate the chances of financial pilferage through an efficient and accountable system under the directions of Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif. It has replaced 117 year-old Stamp paper system introduced in 1899 in the subcontinent during the British colonial rule and saved the common citizen from fraud, forgery, agent mafia, long queues in the treasury office and the banks as the duration of receiving Stamp papers have been reduced from three days to fifteen minutes, which is now operative in the 36 districts and 144 tehsils of Punjab province, he added.

The newly introduced system is online and any person desirous of purchasing high value non-judicial and judicial stamp paper can access the system by a simple internet connection.

The system has empowered the common man to verify the authenticity and value of the e-Stamp paper by sending an SMS on 8100, in addition e-Stamp paper can also be verified by using the e-Stamping website. In order to facilitate the public, besides Stamp Duty, Capital Value Tax, Registration and Comparison fees will also be collected through same challan.
