A spokesman of Punjab Revenue Authority has said that concerns have been raised by the business circles that Punjab Revenue Authority is not paying attention to the problem of double taxation by Sindh Excise & Taxation Department on Infrastructure Development Cess.

PRA wants to clear this misconception as Chairman PRA and Finance Minister Punjab Dr Ayesha Ghous Pasha on the instruction of the Chief Minister Punjab visited Karachi and held meetings with the concerned authorities in order to resolve the issue on the demand of Business Community.

During the said meetings a detailed exchange of views was undertaken regarding the incidence of dual collection of Infrastructure Cess faced by the importers of Punjab. It is reminded that Punjab levied Punjab Infrastructure Development Cess with effect from 1 July 2015 and its formal collection commenced from 22 May 2016. The province of Sindh has been collecting Sindh Infrastructure Cess from mid-90s. As a result importers based in the province of Punjab including those who use dry ports of Punjab are facing extreme hardship due to Sindh's reluctance to discontinue collection of Sindh Cess from transshipments destined for Punjab.

PRA further clarified the misconception created by some revenue collection authorities that matter is solely to be resolved by PRA. As a matter of fact it's the duty of all the revenue collecting bodies to provide congenial atmosphere to the business community. Being conscious of the fact PRA is committed to resolve this issue through negotiations with FBR and Sindh Excise and Taxation Department.
