If asked, what is the single most factor in nation building. The vast majority of us would unequivocally point to education without a second thought. Beyond doubt, education offers the framework on which most development hinges on. World over there is no precedence where the milestone of nation building could have been reached without education.

Nations having realised the utmost significance of education and treats it as such, allocate most of its resources and best minds in the provision of quality education to its citizens. Most nations around the world have declared secondary education compulsory and have taken tangible steps in ensuring everyone without exception actually gets it and gets it free.

A little insight into the priorities list of our successive governments would reveal to everyone's dismay that education comes last in the list of governments' priorities. No wonder, the grim outlook of education in the country is end result of the neglect, lack of planning, bad managers assigned the job, political appointments, and the absence of well thought-out and uniform syllabus.

As a matter of fact, the rural areas of Pakistan are worst hit as regards to education. As a requisite, government should not take education for granted but rather take upon itself as a prime responsibility to educate every single child. As for rural areas, government should adapt a bottom up approach to focus on the education of those living in far-flung areas of the country.

One must not lose sight of the fact that whether it is economically or socially, education plays a vital role in the growth of these two factors. The criticality or profundity of education, therefore, cannot be underestimated, let alone ignored.
