In a major action against illicit trade of cigarettes, Directorate General of Intelligence and Investigation Inland Revenue Hyderabad raided a stockists of non-duty paid counterfeit cigarettes at Mirpurkhas and recovered 181 cartons of cigarettes having value of millions. According to the details, regional directorates of the agency has intensified its efforts in Sindh against the illicit trade of cigarettes including non-duty paid and counterfeit cigarettes. A number of actions has been taken in this regard.

A team of Directorate of I& I-IR Hyderabad, headed by Deputy Directors Mumtaz Ali Thebo and Ali Dost , conducted visit u/s 38 of Sales Tax Act and Section 45 r/w Rule 62 of FED on stockists of tax/duty- unpaid/ counterfeit Cigarettes at Mirpurkhas where 181 cartons of such cigarettes were found and accordingly detained. The value of the stock runs in millions of rupees involving approximately Rs 3.8 million Federal Excise Duty and Sales Tax. Further investigation is in process.
