Model Customs Collectorate (MCC) Islamabad has led the north region by collecting around Rs 4 billion during July-March (2016-2017) against the target of Rs 3.8 billion for this period, reflecting an increase of 3 per cent. Sources said that the MCC Islamabad's remarkable performance is evident from the fact that the MCC has collected Rs 1.5 billion during January-March 2017 against Rs 1.2 billion in January 2016 to March 2016.

Data revealed that positive trend has been observed in collection of customs duty, sales tax, federal excise duty (FED) and withholding tax by MCC Islamabad during current fiscal year. MCC Islamabad is committed for not only achieving its annual target of customs duty, sales tax and FED but is also making serious efforts to surpass with a huge margin of all federal taxes collection at import stage during 2016-17.

According to sources, MCC Islamabad has intensified efforts to increase revenue collection through a well-planned strategy, recovery plan and enforcement measures by the customs officials headed by Collector MCC Islamabad. Besides anti-smuggling actions, enforcement/recovery, the speedy clearance of imported consignments at port and airport will also contribute in revenue collection of the said Collectorate. The pending consignments have been cleared on priority basis to expedite clearance process. The MCC Islamabad has also given priority to the auction of goods in a transparent manner.

At the same time, facilitation of passengers has also been given priority at the airports.

Sources added that the anti-smuggling efforts specifically at airport, AFU and port have made it almost impossible for the smugglers to bring items like mobile phones or others items. The daily seizure of smuggled vehicles has also created fear among the owners of such illegal vehicles. The frequent seizure of consignment of different items pointed towards intensified efforts of the Anti-Smuggling Cell of Islamabad Model Customs Collectorate. The enforcement actions have been intensified and successful interceptions have been made by the anti-smuggling staff of the MCC Islamabad. Based on data analysis of smuggling trends and information-based actions, the MCC Islamabad has implemented a comprehensive strategy to check smuggling of consignments specifically through motorways.

MCC Peshawar collected Rs 5 billion during July-March (2016-2017) against the target of Rs 5.9 billion for the said period, reflecting a decrease of 17 per cent.

MCC Gilgit BTN collected Rs 999 million during July-March (2016-2017) against the target of Rs 621 million for this period, reflecting an increase of 61 percent. Data of January-March 2017 further revealed that Model Customs Collectorate (MCC) Islamabad collected Rs 1.5 billion during January-March 2017 against the target of Rs 1.4 billion for this period, reflecting an increase of 7 per cent.

MCC Peshawar collected Rs 1.4 billion during January-March 2017 against target of Rs 2 billion, reflecting a decrease of 27 per cent. MCC Peshawar has collected Rs 1.4 billion during the period under review against Rs 1.5 billion, reflecting a decrease of 6 per cent. MCC Gilgit BTN collected zero amount during January-March 2017 against target of Rs 34 million due to closure of Sust border during winter season.
