Sindh Excise and Taxation (E&T) Department is planning to devolve motor vehicle registration to car dealers by next fiscal year. In an exclusive talk on the sidelines of Tax Reforms Committee meeting, Director General E&T Shoaib Siddiqui said that Sindh E&T Department had decided to devolve motor vehicle registration to car dealers and for this purpose, a summary would be moved to the Chief Minister for approval and hoped the work would be transferred to car dealers by next fiscal year.

Moreover, he said the E&T Department was also going to commence Geographic Information Systems (GIS) based survey for improving collection of property tax by April 1, 2017 in Sukkur. He said the E&T Department has signed an agreement with a private firm for conducting GIS-based survey in Sukkur to improve the collection of property tax by April 1, 2017.

He said this would be a model survey and complete in a year and later, the same would be extended across Sindh. He added that GIS-based survey across Sindh would take at least three years for completion. He said the E&T Department presently collected only Rs 1.5 billion on account of property tax and after the GIS-based survey in Sindh, the revenue collection would likely to be increased by 300 percent.
