I am pleased to share with you the news about launch of Census 2017 from 15th March 2017 with the house numbering and house listing campaign. The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics under the aegis of Ministry of Finance has been working whole heartedly for the last over two years to prepare for the event. This hard work has borne fruit in the form of the Census Exercise.

By the Grace of Allah Almighty Pakistan has been able to attain macro-economic stability. It is now treading on the path of sustainable and inclusive economic growth. With a view to keeping up the momentum of economic development and ensure equitable distribution of resources, we must know the structure of our population. We must know the different age groups, the young and the old, males and females. What is the proportion of our urban and rural population? What is the level of education among different segments of the population across Pakistan? What is the employment pattern? What are the housing conditions? All these questions need to be answered, and the answers shall Inshallah be facilitated by the census exercise.

It is by knowing all this information that the Government, the private sector, and other institutions, will be able to plan and programme rationally and efficiently for Pakistan.

The census is the unique tool to gather all the required data to have a precise idea of the characteristics of our population. But this data can only be obtained with your support: with the support of ALL of you throughout the Islamic Republic of Pakistan: from the remotest villages, to the heart of the cities, you must all be counted; all of you must be part of our Census 2017.

Being counted is very simple: Enumerators will visit your household and request for information about the people who usually reside in your household. Remember we ALL count! Pay particular attention to correctly declare every male and female in your household, every baby, every older person, and those who suffer from disabilities. There will be questions on age, education, employment, religion, disability, and housing and living conditions.

The success of the census not only depends on the hard work of the dedicated enumerators, but also the co-operation of the people. You are the ones who give the information; you are the ones who respond; and I am confident, that you, all my fellow citizens, understand your role in the census and the importance of this headcount: its important for Pakistan and its important for you and your family.

Cooperate and participate in the 2017 census from March to May 2017!

I know I can count on you to be counted!
