Post Graduate Department University of Peshawar clinched the overall trophy after securing 74 points while Faris John of the same and Hilal of Govt Degree College Hayatabad were declared best athletes of the Year-2017 in an Annual Sports Day Inter-College Games of the University of Peshawar concluded here at Hostel No. ground on Tuesday.

Vice Chancellor University of Peshawar Professor Dr Muhammad Abid was the chief guest on this occasion. Former World Champion Qamar Zaman, Secretary PUTA Professor Dr Iqbal, President of the Sports Committee Muhammad Iqbal, Vice President Professor Dr Fazali Subhani, Director Sports Bahre Karam, players and officials were also present.

The colorful prize distribution ceremony was started with recitation of the Holy Quran by Ahmad Saeed, followed by the National Anthem. Faris John won four gold medals and a bronze medal by winning first position in 3000m, 1500, 800m and 400m race while Hilal Ahmad won three gold medals and three silver medals by levelling best athlete trophy with Faris John at 36 points each.

Hilal Khan of Govt Degree College Hayatabad won silver medal and Roman of Govt College Peshawar secured bronze medal. In the High Jump Jamshed of Govt College of Management Science Peshawar won gold medal, followed by Mohib Ullah of Post Graduate Department University of Peshawar and Roman of GCP.

In the Triple Jump Jamshed of GCMS Peshawar won gold medal, Ahmad Farhan of PG grabbed silver medal and Farhad Habib and Abdul Wahab of Govt Degree College Jamrud won bronze medal.

In 300m, Faris John won gold medal, followed by Muhammad Rahim of GCP and Shah Rukh of GDC Jamrud, in Javelin throw Shahab won gold medal, followed by Ismail of GDC Jamrud and Usman Nawaz of Govt Degree College Hayatabad.

In the Discus throw Inam of Govt Degree College Hayatabad secured gold medal, Shahab of Govt College Peshawar won silver medal and Abid Ullah of Post Graduate Peshawar grabbed bronze medal. More than 200 athletes are taking part from all the affiliated colleges.

Govt College Jamrud won runners-up trophy in cricket, Basketball runners-up trophy won by GC Landikotal, Khyber Agency while Govt College Matra remained third in tug of war and volleyball.

At the end, the chief guest gave away trophies and cash prizes. Faris John and Hilal was awarded Rs 5000 each by the Directorate of Sports University of Peshawar while Principal GCP Dr Fazali Subhani announced Rs 5000 cash prizes for Faris John and Shoaib by giving excellent performances.
