Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on Friday unanimously passed a Supplementary Budget of Rs 26.3 billion for financial year 2016-17 after approving all demands for grants of various departments. The supplementary grants were demanded through 50 demands by different departments. Legislators also presented cut motions on some demands for grants. However, they later withdrawn them to pave the way for unopposed approval of the grants.

Speaker Asad Qaiser also supported the stance of the Sardar Hussain Babak of ANP regarding injustice with his constituency in the distribution of fund collected in head of tobacco cess and directed the convening of a meeting revisiting the share formula of the subject. The Provincial Minister for Excise & Taxation Jamshiduddin Kakakhel committed that the proposed meeting in this regard will be convened after Eidul Fitre to resolve the issue.

Speaking in favour of his cut motion regarding demand for grant for Home Department, the parliamentary leader of ANP said that due to operation Zarbe- Azb bomb blasts had declined and network of terrorists had broken. But, target killings had increased, he said and especially mentioned the murder of a Section Officer. He also called for taking steps to increase the morale of police and arrest such incidents. He demanded the regularisation of the services of Special Police Force built up during the previous government.

He also demanded the promotions of the police officer who had arrested the killers of late Sardar Soran Singh. Responding to the speeches of opposition legislators, the Chief Minister Pervez Khattak welcomed appreciations for police force, saying that the provincial government will welcome any proposal for improvement in the performance of the force. The chief minister attributed improvement in the situation to the establishment of Investigation Wing.
