The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has selected around 75,871 persons for audit through random computer balloting for Tax Year 2014 and tax period July 1, 2013 to June 30, 2014, in six categories of income tax, sales tax and Federal Excise Duty (FED). Finance Minister Ishaq Dar chaired the ceremony held at the FBR House here Monday. Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Revenue, Haroon Akhtar was also present.

Out of total cases selected for audit, sales tax non-corporate taxpayers were 7,486; income tax non-corporate taxpayers 65,439; Federal Excise Duty non-corporate taxpayers 22 cases; sales tax corporate taxpayers 937; income tax corporate taxpayers 1,954 and Federal Excise Duty corporate taxpayers' cases were 32. Last year, around 77,500 returns were selected for audit in respect of six categories.

The random computer ballot was conducted for six categories, ie, corporate cases of Income Tax, Sales Tax & FED and Non-corporate case of Income Tax, Sales Tax and FED. Ishaq Dar, initiated the ballot process by pressing the computer button. Later on, representatives of Chambers and Tax Bars also participated in the balloting. Around 75,871 persons have been selected for audit in respect of six categories. National Tax Numbers of cases selected for audit are displayed on FBR's website. In his address on the occasion, the Finance Minister highlighted the economic and tax policies of the government. He said promotion of tax culture in letter and spirit was necessary to ensure overall economic development in the country.

The minister said that the government would facilitate tax payers in every possible manner and the FBR was taking steps to this end. He said we would always prefer moral suasion to all other ways and means for encouraging people to contribute to the national exchequer. The minister said despite all odds, within last two years, the FBR had achieved 33 percent growth in revenue collection as from over Rs 1,900 billion in 2013, it had reached Rs 2,590 billion by the end of 2014-15. He praised the Chairman FBR and officials and called upon them to make all-out efforts to achieve the revenue target set for FY 2015-16.

Following the audit policy for tax year 2015, random computer ballots were held on 14th September, 2015 for selection of cases for audit for Tax Year 2014 and tax period 1st July, 2013 to 30th June, 2014, in respect of income tax, sales tax and FED at FBR House, here.

Representatives of Chambers of Commerce and Industry, accounting bodies, tax bars and FBR officers attended the ballot ceremony. Minister for Finance and Chairman, FBR addressed the audience on the occasion. In his address, the Minister for Finance highlighted the economic and tax policies of the government.
