Provincial Zakat Council has given approval to Rs 3415 million for Zakat Budget for the year 2015-16. A sum of Rs 1191.670 million has been allocated under the head of subsistence allowance which will benefit to more than 96,000 deserving persons. It was decided in the meeting of the Council presided over by its Chairman former Justice Akhtar Hassan, here on Wednesday.

The Council gave approval to Rs 1020 million for the deserving boy and girl students receiving training in 1,885 vocational training institutes under Punjab Vocational Training Council under the head of educational scholarships technical, 81.208 million rupees for scholarships for deserving boy and girl students of colleges and universities under educational scholarships and general, Rs 81.208 million for deserving boy and girl students of religious seminaries affiliated with Provincial Zakat Administration, Rs 73.824 million for the deserving patients at Tehsil and District Headquarters Hospitals, Rs 88.590 million for the marriage of deserving girls, Rs 90 million as subsistence allowance for more than seven thousand deserving blind persons, Rs 1.200 million as monthly subsistence allowance for leprosy, Rs 258.800 million for the treatment of patients through health welfare committees set up in the hospitals at provincial level, Rs 107.00 million as Ramazan and Eid grant, Rs 60.00 million for the deserving person under self-employment scheme whereas Rs 20.00 million for providing sewing machines and other equipments to deserving people.

Provincial Zakat Council have also given approval to the increase of salaries of Zakat paid staff under which approval has been given to increase the salary of Audit officer from Rs 22 thousand to Rs 27 thousand, Auditor (Divisional) from Rs 11770 to Rs 15 thousand, Junior clerk from Rs 10450 to Rs 14 thousand, Audit Officer (District) from Rs 17600 to Rs 22 thousand and Field Zakat Clerk from Rs 9900 to Rs 13 thousand. The Council has also given permission of treatment of such deserving patients from zakat fund whose period of ID cards has expired. However, such patients will be binding to submit copy of renewed ID card to Medical Social Officer within two months.

Secretary Zakat and Ushar Habib-ur-Rehman Gillani, Administrator Zakat Punjab Muhammad Yousaf Butt, Members of Zakat Council Hafiz Zubair Ahmad Zaheer, Muhammad Azhar Farooqi, Mst. Tanvir Kausar, Mst Iffat Liaqat MNA, officers of Finance, Social Welfare and Local Government Departments were present on the occasion.
