  • Comments Off on Mian Mohammad Sharif’s death: Sharifs declined Musharraf’s offer: Qureshi
An aide to former army chief and President Pervez Musharraf, Major General Rashid Qureshi (Retd), on Friday claimed that the then President and army chief, General Musharraf, had offered Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif to come back and attend in Lahore the burial of their father, Mian Muhammad Sharif, who had died in Suadi Arabia during Sharif family's exile.

Talking at Aaj News programme "Live with Talat", Qureshi said that those who claimed Musharraf did not allow the Sharif brothers to attend their father's funeral were in fact lying. "Not only did Musharraf make an offer to them to 'visit' Pakistan and attend their father's funeral, he also telephoned both Nawaz and Shahbaz to express condolence over his death," he added.

Qureshi said: "They [the Sharifs] outrightly rejected the offer, as the deal that they had cut with Musharraf to go abroad in 2000 ultimately required them to go back to Saudi Arabia once they attended Mian Mohammad Sharif's funeral rites." Quoting Lieutenant General Hamid Javed (Retd), Qureshi said a meeting was held in this regard. It was attended, among others, by the then Punjab Chief Minister, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi.
