A meeting was held between the delegation of the University of Agriculture Peshawar (UAP) and the President Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chamber of Commerce and Industries (KPCCI), Zahiullah Shinwari, in which both sides agreed to explore potential of entrepreneurship in livestock and dairy sector.

The meeting welcomed the offer of Turkish government for investment in livestock sector in KP. The delegation comprised Professor M Subhan Qureshi, Dean, Faculty of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Sciences, Dr Asad Sultan, Assistant Professor Poultry Science and Dr Shoaib Sultan, Assistant Professor, Animal Nutrition. Zafar Paracha represented the Feed industry and Rashid Aman represented Smeda/KPCCI.

The Dean presented the implementation plan for the Dairy Science Park with the mission statement of utilising the livestock resources of KP for self employment of youth and production of Halal meat, milk and eggs in an environment-friendly, cost effective way for local and international market.

After, conceptualising the Dairy Science Park (DSP) during a discussion in Egypt in 2010 with Abdur Rahman Ilyas from ICRISAT India, two international conferences were held during 2011 and 2013 on DSP and inputs were submitted from various scientists, extension specialists, industrialists, development practitioners and civil society agents to visualise the current implementation plan. Warm welcome was offered by Smeda, KPCCI and NUST to implement the idea.

Implementing partners of the plan will be the University of Agriculture, Peshawar to take care of the training, research, education, SoPs and quality control. Investment, value addition, local marketing, branding Khyber meat and export will be managed by the KPCCI. Feasibility, legislation and business support would be taken by the Smeda and NUST will look after machinery, equipment, refrigeration, transportation, energy, telecommunication, civil works. The Livestock Business Facilitation Desk has been established at the KPCCI. It will be responsible for registration of animal science, agricultural, business and other graduates, after undergoing through the business incubation centre. Relevant experts in various fields will be registered for participation in the plan.
