The Peshawar-Bara road linking Tehsil Bara of Khyber Agency reopened after closure of four years with the completion of army operation and lifting of curfew on Saturday, Assistant Political Agent Bara Tehsil Nasir Khan told APP. An incessant curfew has been in place and the roads remained blocked since the military operation began in the area in 2009 to contain the growing militancy, he added.

He said that security forces had cleared most of the areas of Bara, including Tirah Maidan. Khyber Agency parliamentarians Haji Shahji Gul Afridi and Nasir Khan Afridi, accompanied by large number of people hailing from Bara Tehsil and persons from the media, visited from Bara to Doger (main Bara road, situated in Saba tribes to Kalang road in the Akhail tribe area including Thry Adad, link road to Kalang and Podierian Road).

They were jubilant over the completion of the operation in Bara Tehsil, Khyber Agency. The local people have welcomed the re-opening of the roads leading to Bara and lifting of the curfew, which they had demanded time and again. APA Nasir Khan said that it is new beginning and obviously the people would repose trust in security forces that completed the operation by cleaning the areas from the militants by rendering great sacrifices along with the people of Bara Tehsil and Tirah Valley. He said the area was opened partially with four hours in the morning and four hours in the afternoon.

He said law and order situation had improved in Bara and forces played vital role in restoration of peace in the area, therefore, the administration decided to reopen all roads heading towards Bara and lift curfew. He said that for establishing lasting peace, some restrictions have been imposed on the dwellers of the area. He said that display on weapons on the main roads will be prohibited. "Now security forces have established their position in Bagh Maidan in Tirrah," he added. The local people have appreciated the re-opening of the roads leading to Bara and lifting of the curfew. They also demanded safe return of thousands of displaced persons of Bara.
