At least four persons were killed and more than three dozen others injured in separate rain-related incidents in different areas of Charsadda district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Friday. Flood inundated seven different localities in district Peshawar prompting the district administration to declare emergency and allocate beds in hospital for meeting any emergent situation in the district.

Flood had affected Jogni, Jala Bela, Mian Gujjar, Mohallah Islamabad, Bela Neko Khan, Daudzai, and Tapo Koroona areas of the district. In this connection, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Peshawar Mohammad Javed Marwat presided over an emergency meeting and established special control room, which will perform 24-hour duty.

Those who attended the meeting were included Additional Deputy Commissioner, Peshawar, Ahmad Jan Afridi; Assistant Commissioner (AC) Asad Haroon; Chief Municipal Officer, Saleem Khan; Major Absar; representatives of the department of food, Rescue 1122 and officials of the departments of Irrigation, PWD, police and other concerned authorities. The participants of the meeting were briefed on the fresh situation after the affectees of the Jogni, Jala Bela, Mian Gujjar, Mohallah Islamabad, Bela Neko Khan, Daudzai, and Tapo Koroona areas of the district. The meeting was informed that 450 members of the 75 families of the flood affected areas had been provided shelter in the nearby 15 schools while special measures had also been taken for provision of food and drinking water to them.

Addressing the meeting, DC Peshawar said all concerned agencies had been alerted and activated for the implementation of the protection plan and saving of the human lives.

The meeting decided the establishment of control room in the Fort Road Camp Office of the Deputy Commissioner, which will perform duties around the clock, while three officers including Additional Assistant Commissioners (AACs), Ahmad Kamal, Mohammad Fawad and Shehryar were appointed focal persons.

The meeting directed the department of education and principals of all schools to remain present on duty along staff and clean the rooms, bath-rooms and other facilities ready for possible shifting of the flood affectees. Similarly, the Department of Public Health was directed for provision 15,000 water purification tablets to the administration. The meeting also directed the provision of 10 boats for the rescue operation and also directed police for provision of full-proof security to the personnel of Rescue 1122 and workers of different non-governmental organisations.

INP adds: According to details, due to strong wind and heavy rain, five-year-old Raheela and eight-year-old Mahnoor died while 35 others injured in separate roof and wall collapse incidents in different areas of Charsadda district. In Geedarrwan area of Hangu, roof of a dilapidated house caved in resulting in death of two people including a minor and left three others injured.
