Political heavyweights are flexing their muscles to win over rivals' candidates on NA-9 Mardan-I, as almost all political parties have fielded their candidates to contest from this constituency. As the general elections are approaching nearer political heavyweights initiated electioneering campaign in the constituency. The tough competition is expected among the candidates of ANP, PPPP, PML-N and JUI-F on national assembly seat NA-09 Mardan-I.

The political heavyweight will try their luck for nabbing votes on this NA constituency in the May 11 elections. This constituency comprises three seats of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, PK-23, PK-24, and PK-25. Majority of rural areas are included in NA-9 constituency.

Almost all mainstream political parties and religious factions have fielded their potential candidate for nabbing ballots from opponents. The former chief minister and ANP top contender in Mardan-I Amir Haider Hoti, Shazia Aurangzeb of PPPP, Maulana Shujaul Mulak from Jamiate Ulema Islam-Fazl, Attaur Rehman of Jamaat-i-Islami, Khawaja Mohammad Khan Hoti of PML-N and Nasir Khan of PTI. The all candidates belonging to the main political parties are sure that they will win the elections.

Despite the slightly edged of PPPP for winning several elections on this constituency, ANP candidate will give tough time to opponents, being strong hold and larger vote bank in the NA-9 Mardan-I. In the constituency, a total of registered voters were increased at 336,177 including both male and female from 262,042 as compared to last general election.

Nawabzada Khawaja Mohammad Khan Hoti contested last election on ANP ticket and begged more than 31,075 ballots from this constituency, followed by his opponent PPPP candidate Khanza Khan grabbed only 24,217 votes, and JUI-Fazl candidate Maulana Shujaul Mulk begged around 10,625 ballots.

In 2012 by-elections on this constituency, the ANP candidate Himayatullah Mayar again become victorious with nabbing around 30,770 ballots against his opponents contender of JUI-F Maulana Shujaul Mulak, backed by then PML-N and PTI and other political and religious factions begged around 24,621. On PK-23 tough competition is expected among former chief minister Ameer Haider Hoti, PML-N candidate Umar Farooqi Khan, PPP's Khan Khawas Khan, JUI-S's Ikramullah Shahid and Mufti Amjad Khan of JUI-F.

In 2002 elections, Ikramullah Shahid won this seat and gained 10,649 on MMA ticket. In 2008 elections, Amir Haider Hoti won this seat and gained 1,109 votes, PPP candidate Arshad Ahmed Khan gained 6,659 votes who has recently joined ANP and supporting Haider Hoti, Ikramullah Shahid contest as independent candidate and gained 4,309 votes, JUI-F candidate gained 1,274 votes and PML-N candidate gained 1,115 votes.

In 2013 elections, Ameer Haider Khan Hoti will face a tough competition on this seat. The close competition is expected on constituency PK-24 among JUI-F candidate Maulana Amanat Shah, PPPP Abdus Samad Khan Toru, ANP's Ali Khan and PML-N's Nawabzada Arsala Khan.

In 2002 elections, MMA candidate Maulana Amant Shah had won this seat and gained 16,077 votes and in 2008 elections ANP candidate Ahmed Khan Bahadur had won this seat and gained 11,806, PPP candidate Muzam Khan had gained 8,805 votes while Maulana Amant Shah gained 7,118 while PML-N candidate gained 629 votes.

In 2013 elections, the ANP had dropped Haji Ahmed Khan Bahadur and allotted its ticket to Ali Khan, the son of former federal minister Haji Yaqoob Khan who has recently joined the party due to which ANP is facing a lot of problems on this constituency. On PK-25, a tough competition is also expected among ANP candidate Ghani Dad Khan, PML-N Bakhtawar Khan, the nephew of Ghani Dad Khan, PTI Obaid Khan Mayar and JUI-F Maulana Israrul Haq.

In the 2002 elections, the MMA candidate Maulana Israrul Haq had won this seat and gained 13,154 votes. In 2008 Ghani Dad Khan had won this seat and gained 9,692 votes, PPP candidate gained 7,035 votes, JUI-F candidate Maulana Israrul Haq gained 7,717 votes and PML-N candidate gained 1,463 votes.

In the 2013 elections, the ANP candidate Ghani Dad Khan will face a tough competition for the seat. According to the results of 2008 elections, the ANP had gained 32,609 votes, PPP gained 24,217 votes, JUI-F gained 16,107 votes, PML-N gained 3,206 votes. After the joining of Nawab family in PML-N especially Nawabzada Khawaja Mohammad Khan Hoti and Nawabzada Arsala Khan PML-N got strengthened in this constituency because this family has a lot of supporters and due to this reason PML-N joined the race for NA-9 Mardan 1 11 in the race for NA-35.

Similarly, a tough contest is also expected in Malakand division among 11 contestants on NA-35 in the forthcoming general elections. As per details, total number of registered voters in Malakand are 311,887 in which 177,981 is male voters and 133,996 female voters. There are 11 candidates for NA-35 Malakand in the election.

Lal Mohammad Khan from PPPP, Sayed Bakhtar Mani from Jamaat-i-Islami, Hajji Fida Mohammad from PML(N), Hafiz Mohammad Saeed from JUI(F), Rahmat Shah Sayal from ANP, Junaid Akbar from PTI, Mohammad Ibrar Yousufzai from QWP while Mohammad Khan, Alamgeer Khan, Ijaz-ur-Rahman and Bacha Hussain will contest the election as an independent candidate. On PK-98, there are 16 candidates in the election race, in which Hameed Khan of PAMP, Bashir Bacha of QWP, Mohammad Ali Shah Bacha of PPPP, Shafi-ul-Allah Khan of ANP, Shahabzada Khalid Jan of JUI(F), Jamaluddin of Jamaat-i-Islami, Yasar Khan Advocate of PTI, Mohammad Easal Khan of PML(N), while Jahangir Khan of Peoples workers Alliance, Mohammad Khan, Janat Hussain, Jehan Zarin, Yaqoob Khan, Darodan, Abdul Qadir and Mohammad Nasir will take part as independent candidate.

On PK-99, there are also 16th candidates in the run. Mohammad Hamayun Khan of PPPP, Shahraz Khan of Jamaat-i-Islami, Mulana Javeed of JUI(F), Shakeel Khan of PTI, Shuaib Khan of ANP, Mohammad Ishaq of JUP, Mohammad Ibrar Yousufzai of QWP, Muslim Khan of MAMP, Mohammad Zada Bhutto of PPP (SB), Sajad Khan of PML (N), Hajji Qasim Qasab of Peoples workers Alliance while Suhail Ahmad, Ishan-ul-Allah, Naved Iqbal, Shakeel Ahmad (Col) Ibrar.

The real fight is, for NA-35 Malakand for which PPPP Lal Mohammad Khan and Jamaat-i-Islami Sayed Bakhtar mani and on PK-98 PPPP Sayed Mohammad Ali Shah Bacha and peoples workers alliance Hajji Jahangir Khan and on PK-99 PPPP Engr Mohammad Hamayun Khan and Jamaat-i-Islami Shahraz Kahn, on May 11.
