Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has asked the legal community to come up to the public expectations by providing them justice at their doorsteps. He was addressing the participants of 16th Roll Signing Ceremony held here on Saturday in which 30 new advocates were enrolled. Recounting the events of March 2007 Movement, he said it had brought about revolutionary changes in the country's political and constitutional outlook.

"Due to efforts of the legal fraternity and other segments of society through the movement of rule of law, the confidence of public in judiciary and 'black coats' has increased," he added. He said now lawyers are required to come up to the expectations by providing justice to people at their doorsteps. Felicitating the newly enrolled advocates, the Chief Justice said that it was indeed a matter of great pleasure for him to receive them in the Supreme Court Building for roll signing ceremony as Advocates of Supreme Court.

Expressing optimism about the newly enrolled advocates' role, he said that they would be putting in all their efforts to assist the benches in dispensation of justice to facilitate the litigants and civil society. "You will be working for supremacy of Constitution, rule of law and upholding the independence of judiciary," he added. He told them that as the Supreme Court exercises Appellate and Original jurisdiction, so they would have to assist the court in interpretation of the Constitution in an appropriate manner as their assistance is also transformed in judgements which are put on annals of history for the times to come.

Earlier, Supreme Court Registrar Dr Faqir Hussain welcomed the newly enrolled Advocates of Supreme Court and conducted the proceedings.
