Pakistan People's Party has strongly reacted to the defection story of one of its MPA, Nuzhat Pathan, and termed her leaving the party as a result of coercive methods applied by the government to force her change her loyalty.

Talking to Business Recorder, PPP sources said that Nuzhat had been coerced to leave PPP and join PML (Q) as her husband, a PIA employee, was under pressure to ask his wife to do the needful.

His promotion to higher scale, proper posting and decision on pay and perks were all at stake, they said.

They said that Nuzhat had no alternative other than to change her loyalty and facilitate her husband in pursuing his career.

They said that during her illness, she was in good hands. "Coverage of medical expenses is available in the rules of the provincial assembly, and that was available to her."

On the other hand, PPP sources said, her medical coverage was available to her from PIA.

They said that she had left the party under duress. She was forced to issue a statement against party chief Benazir Bhutto and other leaders for their indifference towards her during her illness.

They said that the Sindh Chief Minister was busy in pre-election rigging and manipulations to gain comfortable majority in the national and provincial assemblies

They said that the chief minister had contacted a few more MPAs and tried to win over them, but in vain. "Such crises would continue to erupt as long as next election are over," they said, and added that the Sindh chief minister should avoid such tactics and minimise all chances of clashes that might bring political chaos in the province.
