Punjab Governor, Lieutenant General Khalid Maqbool (Retd), who is also Chancellor of the Punjab University, on Monday inaugurated the College of Engineering and Emerging Technology (CEET) here at Quaid-e-Azam Campus.

The college would offer education in various disciplines including metallurgy and material engineering, fuel engineering, energy technology, electronics and telecommunication engineering, polymer engineering and technology, environmental engineering, space technology, computer engineering, biomedical engineering. Besides, the college would also offer postgraduate diploma course in foundry technology.

Addressing the ceremony, the Governor appreciated the Punjab University's decision regarding setting up of the college and launching of classes in new disciplines saying that these disciplines would help in development of country's industrial sector.

The CEET would be a basic training centre for producing high quality engineers in different fields which would meet the increasing demand of the industrial sector, he added.

On the occasion, PU Vice Chancellor Arshad Mahmood said it was the basic responsibility of the universities to produce experts in the field of modern science keeping in view the domestic requirements. Pakistan is going to become member of WTO and thus needs capable engineers to maintain international standard to meet the coming challenges, he added.

Dean, Professor Dr Muhammad Arif Butt highlighted the background of the Institute of Chemical Engineering and Technology and said that it was granted Institute's status in 1982 with a view to meet the national requirements of industrial and engineering sectors.

He said that the establishment of Institute of Coal Technology and Institute of Quality and Management was the part of Institute's expansion plan and setting up of College of Engineering and Emerging Technology is continuation of the plan.

Principal of the College, Professor Dr Javed Iqbal also addressed the ceremony and briefed about the salient features of the college. He highlighted the disciplines that have been recently introduced.
