Kuwaiti Minister for Commerce and Industries Abdullah Abdul Rehman Al-Taweel invited Pakistani business community to avail of the opportunity of increasing exports to Iraq using Kuwait as base.

He made these remarks in a meeting with Commerce Minister Humayun Akhtar Khan. Both the ministers discussed ways and means to enhance bilateral trade between the two countries.

The Kuwaiti minister invited the Pakistani business community and the government to build warehouses in Kuwaiti free trade zone to export their goods duty-free to the destinations of their own choice.

He said that at present 1,000 trucks loaded with different goods move from Kuwait to Iraq daily and Pakistan could also avail of the opportunity.

Abdullah showed interest in increasing imports of foodstuffs and agricultural products from Pakistan.

He laid emphasis on close co-ordination between the chamber of commerce and industry of the two countries. He also assured facilitation to the Pakistan business community in holding trade exhibitions in Kuwait.

Humayun stressed that with the close co-operation between the two countries the volume of the present trade could be increased three times.

He said that trade between the private sectors of both the countries was the best option in view of the fact that Pakistan has liberalised its economy. Pakistan would give priority to setting up warehouses in Kuwait, he added.

He also said that there should be close co-ordination between the two countries and also accepted the invitation extended by the Kuwaiti minister to visit Kuwait in near future.
